  • Prevention is key. A list of emergency numbers is also good just in case.

  • If I didn’t know better I would say our 1.5 y.o. has been reading part of this. If he has a sore spot he says “owie” You need to be wide awake and npot preoccupied when you walk though a safety gate, not do what I have done twice and trip over the bar at the bottom of it. You need special locks on some of your cupboards too even if you think they are high.
I know a Mum who was in the toilet. When you need t go you can only hang on for so long. Her daughter pushed the table over to the fridge, a chair to the table, a kid’s stool to the chair, then climbed up and stood on tippy toe on the table. She could just reach and open the cupboard above the fridge and got the flavoured panadol liquid. This was quite a few years ago I don’t even know if they still make the same flavoiu She is a very strong child and she had watched the bottle being opened once too often. Need I say more? She had one very quite sleepy girl. A country farming community so a quick call to RFDS for instructions. Treatment successful, so in-house service cancelled. Apparently she loved the flavour of it.

  • A kids first aid course was really useful for me as there were just a few little things that I felt were good to know specifically what to do etc.

  • A first-aid course doesn’t have to cost a lot, or take a lot of time. And it could save the life of someone you love. Contact the Red Cross in your city for information of classes. And if you can’t get to a course, at least make sure you’ve got a decent first-aid kit in your home.
