Women are in shock after discovering a panty liner with the words “sexy and sensual” on the packaging.

Charity organisation, Share the Dignity, who is doing their bit to end period poverty, shared an image of the panty liners on their Facebook page asking other women what they thought about the packaging.

“So a girlfriend of mine bought these liners for her 8 year old daughter who just got her period.

“Hmmmmm the words “sexy and sensual” just don’t seem appropriate to be on a pad… what do you think should be on there? #sharethedignity #periods”

Their post has attracted nearly 800 comments and over 1000 reactions. People soon shared their thoughts and some absolute fantastic suggestion as to what should be on the packaging instead.

“I’m 31 & was still horrified when I saw this on mine.”

“What is sexy and sensual about bleeding once a month. Who ever thought of that might need a mental assessment.”

“OMG there is nothing sexy and sensual about sanitary products!”

“Basic instructions, face this way, don’t flush, be brave, it’s nothing chocolate can’t fix.”

“Info on cervical screening as the recommendations have changed . Maybe info on HPV vaccination. A reminder to check your boobs too & how. Domestic Violence helpline info.”

“Wow…nope
How about –
You got this
You are beautiful
Your are brave smart …..
You stuff young girls kinda need to.hear
Or how bout random joke or magic eye puzzles
Absolutely any thing but this !!”

“I’d love to see these products have useful facts about Endometriosis, Adenomyosis & PCOS – and ALL other gynecological issues, so that women can be informed & educated, especially as they sit there changing their pad for the 10th time that afternoon thinking “is this normal??”

  • 8 years old and she has her period already?! Poor little girl. Sexy and sensual are not words I think of to describe myself at that time of the month. Thus woman should have complained to the company making them before going public like this

    • I started mine aged 10. I was the first out of all my friends and I hated it.

  • Woah, not cool!
Nothing sexy or sensual about a pad.
I used to love the random facts on Libra packets when I was younger.

  • Yes a bit odd to have that written on them! Never thought about young girls at 8 needing these though so wording definitely needs to change! That is the last thing you feel at that time of the month.

  • Definitely wrong choice of words what was the company thinking? Was this a males input? How about some different language seeing as how very young girls are just beginning their period. So inappropriate. Why not use them to educate girls about looking after their health?

  • I for one do not feel ‘sexy & sensual’ at that time of the month. I don’t know many woman who would say they feel that way either. That’s why I like libra, at least you can learn an interesting new fact on their packaging.

  • I guess they may be trying to reduce the grossness of periods for young girls by putting these messages on pads. But sexy and sensual are two words I would never use to describe how I felt during menstruation

    Reply

  • Oh yes do finally a true real message because every woman that ever lived and had periods feels exactly that way during that time NOT!!!! WTAF is all I can say.

    Reply

  • I never thought anyone paid attention to these messages….

  • I don’t agree with wording like sexy on pads , some of the other suggestions are better

  • Just… No!!
It doesn’t matter what age you are, noone wants to see this on liners, especially girls who have only just started getting their period.
The least “sexy and sensual” thing possible if your period… so wrong!!

  • Definitely not appropriate
Especially when they have young girls who would use them

  • Funny for an adult not so for a young one

  • Very inappropriate, two of our girls have their periods and I would not be buying these for them, no matter the quality. Why sexy? Why aren’t we allowed to just feel like crap on our periods and it be okay? I think it sends the wrong message, especially to young girls. I am sick of everything being related back to being sexy and sensual, what about modesty? Why aren’t we teaching our children about being modest and respectful? Sorry went on a tangent there…

  • That’s actually funny

  • They way the story started, it made it seem like that was all that was written on it.
But when you see that it’s written with all the other statements, I think it’s fine.
It’s absolutely not saying that your periods are sexy, because let’s face it; they suck.
It’s just saying that you don’t have to feel nasty, or that you have to wear unflattering clothes etc.
It’ saying you can feel confident, you can wear whatever dress/ outfit you want.
As a woman who:gets extremely heavy periods, I understand what they re saying
