Sex education lessons in which pupils as young as eight will be told ‘all genders’ have periods were yesterday condemned as unnecessarily confusing for young children.

The UK classes follow guidelines that were issued to teachers to help them avoid offending girls who identify as boys.

But critics described the guidelines as inappropriate and another example of political correctness gone mad, shares Daily Mail.

The teacher guidance, from Brighton & Hove City Council, states: ‘Trans boys and men and non-binary people may have periods.’ It says language about menstruation must be inclusive of ‘all genders’ and orders that ‘bins for used period products are provided in all toilets’ for children.

One MP described it as ‘insanity’ for teachers to be explaining the concept of transgender boys having periods to eight-year-olds.

‘Learning about periods is already a difficult subject for children that age, so to throw in the idea girls who believe they are boys also have periods will leave them completely confused,’ he added.

Brighton & Hove City Council said last night: ‘By encouraging effective education on menstruation and puberty, we hope to reduce stigma and ensure no child or young person feels shame in asking for period products inside or outside of school if they need them.

‘We believe that it’s important for all genders to be able to learn and talk about menstruation together… Our approach recognises the fact that some people who have periods are trans or non-binary.’

Confusing or necessary?

  • Oh my goodness. Kids look to adults to teach them about life, not confuse the heck out of them. All this offering of possible/maybe/just in case/perhaps is NOT covering all bases and providing justification or reasoning to their perfectly normal confusion & curiosity about life it’s taking away their identify by saying you may or may not be who you are and what you were born as (and all the variations of that). :,(

  • I’m not sure why they would tell boys that. I get the transgender thing but surely it’s not appropriate to tell boys they could get periods. Confusing to say the least.

  • Ridiculously confusing & totally unnecessary at this age.

  • Sex education lessons in which pupils as young as eight will be told ‘all genders’ have periods are absolutely confusing I think.

  • I don’t see anything wrong with boys learning about periods. But for transgender kids maybe leave it up to their parents and mental health professionals to go into detail about what will specifically happen to them.

  • This is utterly ridiculous, messing with childrens’ heads, in this case is the said adults fault.

  • I really think the focus should be on empowering and teaching all children about the different reproductive systems and helping those with female biology (regardless of the gender label) experience a more comfortable and shameless time with menstruation. Parents as much as possible should be involved with the process and it shouldn’t be the schools responsibility entirely. Children should be left to be children… lets stop with the self limiting labels.

  • This is just stupid! Only women have periods or people who have those body parts. It is just going too far!

  • I think the fact they are talking about it is great, makes it become more acceptable and not so taboo, but don’t say all genders. What are you thinking?!?! If you have a vagina, you will get your period. The percentage of trans etc at the age of 8 is so small it wont apply to most of the schools, so why make it a problem!

  • The world has gone mad. This is not something that should be talked about to children so young.

  • I don’t agree with this. It’s way too confronting and confusing for such little kids.
