Reports that an 11-year-old girl was shot in the head while waiting in the car for her parents.
Police, who were called to the Deloraine Medical Centre about 9:00pm on Tuesday, will allege a 25-year-old man shot at a car in Stagg Court, Deloraine, Tasmania, reports ABC News.
The girl, who was in the car, was hit and taken to the medical centre by a family member.
The girl was then transferred to the Launceston General Hospital before being flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.
Her condition, initially listed as critical, is now stable.
Officers from Launceston CIB are continuing to investigate and a 25-year-old man is assisting with their inquiries.
Daily Mail reported that a woman claiming to be related to the girl’s family called a local radio station saying the shooting stemmed from a fight earlier in the evening.
She said the 11-year-old had a bullet lodged in her head and fragments in her face and close to her heart.
The caller said the man who was arrested was the girl’s uncle and not the shooter, but it was not known if the suspect was still at large.
A neighbour told Daily Mail Australia they heard a heated argument followed by ‘what sounded like a firecracker’.
This horrific news comes just days after a three year old died when he was shot earlier in the week
