Young School girls are too afraid to use unisex toilets over fears of ‘period shaming’ from boys and ‘sexual harassment’.

A growing number of schools are ditching separate gender toilets claiming they are not inclusive to transgender children and are a breeding ground for bullying, shares Daily Mail.

But some girls are avoiding going to the toilet during school hours because of cruel taunts from boys and a lack of privacy, according to the Daily Express.

Some girls even avoid drinking water so that they will not have to use the toilet.

A parent of a secondary school girl told the newspaper that ‘boys are always speculating on whether girls are having their periods according to how long they take in the toilet.’

A spokesperson, told the newspaper that no school girl should feel like they are unable to use the toilet.

She said: ‘No child should avoid school, or stop drinking water so they don’t wee. Girls cannot “hold periods in”.’

Do you support the use of Unisex toilets in schools?

  • How about making it toilets for those with a penis, and one for those with a vagina, and a disabled toilet. And in a rare case that a school has someone attending that has both penis and vagina then bring in a partaloo especially for them.
    Just stop all this foolishness.

  • There should be male, female and disabled toilets available.

  • That’s so horrible, why are people so cruel.

  • From experience working in a school, girls need a separate toilet. Boys have all kinds of gross contests (such as who can wee the furthest)

  • A local shopping centre has unisex toilets and personally “I hate them” I am always weary and on edge when I have used them also every time I have used them there is urine on the floor, the toilet set is up and toilet stain-ey and smelly and trust me it’s not from the ladies.
These are young girls in this story and like so many others have said they need to be comfortable and be able to use the toilet in private.

  • You only need 3 different toilets at school, the same as shopping centres. Female, Male and Disabled.

  • There are disabled toilets or staff or sick bay toilets available at schools.

  • Wow! Why do we need to do this? Boys and girls clearly have different needs in the toilet, so I cannot understand why we even need to consider this.

  • I would be horrified if my daughters’ school introduced this. Boy or girl they need privacy when going to the bathroom. Many schools have disabled toilets- couldn’t the transgender children use that?
Plus boys act so stupid at this age – girls need time out from them!!!
I also agree it’s ridiculous children this young are ‘deciding’ they’re transgender – let kids be kids – they’re forced to grow up too fast these days.

  • ridiculous! There shouldn’t be transgender children! There should be an age requirement of 18 unless a very specific medical problem which is rare. What is the world coming to?

  • I think there should be unisex, girls and boys individual toilets – then everyone is covered and can be comfortable using the facilities.

  • No, I don’t think toilets should be unisex.

  • Toilets should never be unisex. I didn’t know they existed at at schools. It’s not like they are hired portaloos for additional toilets at large events.

  • I can relate. I used to be so scared using toilets at primary as they were never monitored.kids. Constantly jump over or peep under the door and there was no privacy

  • As an adult female I would find it daunting to use a unisex public toilet let alone when I was a teenager going through so many changes. It’s not really inclusion if they are discriminating against the majority. Simple solution would be to have male, female and unisex for the ones who wish to use it.
